BioSTL serves as anchor tenant in the new state-of-the-art space that Washington University in St. Louis has beautifully renovated to help accommodate St. Louis’ blossoming bioscience startup ecosystem.
With the BioGenerator Labs at its centerpiece, housing dozens of startups supported by BioSTL's investment arm BioGenerator, our new space at The BioSTL Building at 4340 Duncan Avenue in the Cortex Innovation Community brings together BioSTL programs across the innovation ecosystem, including capital formation, entrepreneur development, inclusion, public policy, and global sourcing of innovation – all under one roof. This $44 million renovation demonstrates the connection, collaboration and community partnership taking place around innovation and entrepreneurship in the St. Louis region. Designed with growing tech companies in mind, a public-private partnership rooted with Washington University resources, has brought back to life 4340 Duncan Avenue in the Cortex Innovation Community.
Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, 4340 Duncan Avenue was built in 1930 to house a state-of-the-art printing facility for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The space has been reimagined with innovation once again at its core. HOK is the architecture firm; Tarlton served as the construction manager on The BioSTL Building project.
The BioSTL Building at 4340 Duncan Avenue includes 80,000 square feet of rentable, state-of-the-art office, lab and modular spaces to help support St. Louis startups in need of affordable, functional space in which to grow and thrive. The project was conceived as place to nurture and accelerate businesses between the startup and large-scale stages, where these companies will be able to keep their talent, tech and brilliance in St. Louis.
BioSTL's 37,000 sf space allows us to expand our mission of cultivating and growing innovative bioscience companies and entrepreneurs. Two BioGenerator portfolio companies and BioGenerator Labs clients have grown large enough to warrant their own space: Confluence Discovery Technoloigies now occupies more than 20,000 sf of the 4th floor; Arch Oncology leases approximately 6,000 sf on the building's third floor for its scientific research laboratory.
