It’s no accident that St. Louis, a city with more than its share of past racial strife, was just praised by the Brookings Institution for its inclusive technology scene.
Plenty of local organizations have been working on the issue for years. Arch Grants, which just awarded $1 million to 20 early-stage companies, emphasizes diversity in its selection process. Brazen, a resource and mentoring group for women entrepreneurs, was founded here. And BioSTL’s four-year-old inclusion initiative is starting to produce promising science- and technology-based companies founded by women, people of color and immigrants.
